Broward schools lost 12,343 students this year (now ~224,324), and the district may close or repurpose 10 more schools after earlier closures. Charter enrollment fell too.

Palm Beach County lost nearly 7,000 students (~173,155) — twice the expected drop — and has cut 1,200 positions, with a salary freeze recommended amid what the superintendent calls "a severe revenue shortfall."

Both remain among America's largest districts. Watch for boundary and closure announcements affecting 2027–28.
