The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Flood Advisory at 7:33 AM on Wednesday, November 4, for southern Broward County, in effect until 10:30 AM EST. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms across the advisory area, and the NWS said minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, and forecasters expect an additional 1 to 2 inches, which will result in minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Locations that will experience flooding include Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Davie, Plantation, Sunrise, Weston, Cooper City, the intersection of I-75 and Griffin Road, Sunshine Acres, Royal Palm Ranches, Pine Island Ridge, Nova Southeastern University, Broadview Park, Markham Park and Downtown Davie.
The NWS safety instruction is direct: turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads — most flood deaths occur in vehicles. South Florida Malayalees (SFM) readers driving in southern Broward this morning should allow extra time and never attempt to cross standing water.
