The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Special Weather Statement on Friday, October 23, for strong thunderstorms affecting metro and coastal Palm Beach County through 6:00 PM EDT.

At 5:10 PM, meteorologists were tracking the storms along a line extending from Ocean Ridge to near downtown West Palm Beach, moving south at about 5 mph, based on radar. The storms may bring wind gusts of 45 to 50 mph and penny-size hail. Locations impacted include West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach, Ocean Ridge, Palm Springs, Lantana, and Atlantis.

The Weather Service says gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, and minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Seek shelter in a safe building until the storm passes, do not drive through flooded roadways, and monitor local radio and television for additional information and possible warnings, as the storms may intensify.
