Baptist Health broke ground Oct. 7, 2026, on the new home of its Baptist Health Kenneth C. Griffin Neuroscience Institute, on the Baptist Hospital main campus off Kendall Drive in Miami. During the ceremony, Baptist Health announced an additional $25 million gift from Citadel founder and CEO Kenneth C. Griffin, bringing his total support for neuroscience at the system to $75 million. The institute — previously the Miami Neuroscience Institute — has been renamed in his honor.
The 197,000-square-foot facility is slated to open in early 2029. According to Baptist Health's Oct. 7 announcement, it will add 16 subspecialty providers, more exam rooms, and the system's first academic lecture theater, plus outpatient physical, speech, and occupational therapy, rehabilitation, and neuroinfusion services under one roof. The institute treats dementia, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and other complex neurological conditions, and plans to expand its clinical trials.
The new $25 million also establishes the Kenneth C. Griffin Neuroscience Institute Transformational Impact Fund, dedicated to research, innovation, education, and prevention. Griffin's 2024 gift of $50 million was described by Baptist Health as the largest single donation in its history; the combined $75 million ranks among his largest healthcare gifts in Florida. Baptist Health says the investment supports its aim of becoming one of the nation's leading destinations for brain and spine care.
Why it matters: Baptist Health is the largest healthcare organization in South Florida, spanning Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. For families dealing with dementia, Alzheimer's, epilepsy, or Parkinson's, a dedicated 197,000-square-foot neuroscience facility opening in 2029 — with expanded specialists, trials, and therapy services in one place — could mean access to advanced brain and spine care closer to home.
