Check the pantry before breakfast: the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned late Friday, October 30, that Once Upon a Farm Tractor Wheels Organic Toddler Soft-Baked Bars pose a potentially fatal choking hazard, and said consumers should not buy or serve them and should throw any they have away immediately.

The warning covers every flavor, quantity and variety — all lot codes and expiration dates. The FDA says several reports describe toddlers ages 1.5 to 2.5 suffering complete airway obstruction after eating the bars: when chewed, the product reportedly forms a dry, sticky mass that back blows and the Heimlich maneuver may fail to dislodge, and some incidents required emergency response and hospital observation. The bars are sold nationwide at Costco, Target, Walmart and online, including Amazon; the company has agreed to initiate a recall, and its notice lists Florida in distribution and offers a full refund on returns to the place of purchase.

Why it matters: this is a common toddler snack that may already be in South Florida homes, and there is no lot number to check — every package is covered. Do not serve it. If a child is choking and first aid fails to clear the obstruction, call 9-1-1, the FDA advises.
