Florida's dengue outbreak has reached 296 locally acquired cases through October 3 — the largest U.S. outbreak in decades.

Miami-Dade is under a formal mosquito-borne illness alert (heightened local transmission). Broward and Palm Beach are under advisory. Local counts: Miami-Dade 8, Broward 1, Palm Beach 1; most cases are in Hillsborough (259). Another 262 cases were travel-linked, mostly from Cuba.

Protect yourself: drain standing water (pots, buckets, gutters), use repellent, and cover up at dawn and dusk. Dengue brings high fever, severe headache, and joint pain — seek care if symptoms follow mosquito bites.
