The Federal Aviation Administration on Sunday, October 18 extended the temporary flight restrictions over Mar-a-Lago through October 20, 2027, according to a new FAA notice reported by the Palm Beach Daily News. The restrictions run around the clock, whether or not President Trump is in Palm Beach, and had been due to expire at 8 a.m. on October 20.
The 1-nautical-mile no-fly zone, first imposed on October 20, 2025 at the U.S. Secret Service's request, shifted departures from President Donald J. Trump International Airport northeast over Palm Beach and West Palm Beach neighborhoods that were not historically under the flight path. County airport officials have said those paths cross about 11,000 homes and 21,000 people — four times the homes under the historic eastbound route.
Why it matters
Residents, business owners and school leaders in the affected neighborhoods have raised concerns about jet noise, safety and property effects, and questioned why the zone stays in force when Trump is away. A separate FAA proposal to make similar rules permanent is still pending after its public comment period closed October 2. For now, travelers should expect the rerouted Palm Beach flight paths to continue for another year.
