The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Flood Advisory for northern Broward County and southeastern Palm Beach County on Saturday, October 17, in effect until 6:00 PM EDT, for flooding caused by excessive rainfall.

Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms, with 2 to 3 inches already fallen and up to 2 additional inches expected. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas is ongoing or expected, with ponding of water in urban areas.

Locations that may experience flooding include Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Margate, Lighthouse Point, Highland Beach, Coconut Creek, Parkland and Hillsboro Beach.

The NWS advises drivers to turn around rather than drive through flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
