The National Weather Service in Miami extended the High Surf Advisory for coastal Palm Beach County in an update issued at 3:56 PM on Tuesday, October 20. The advisory is now in effect until 8 PM Wednesday, October 21, instead of ending Wednesday morning, with large breaking waves of 5 to 9 feet expected in the surf zone.

The Weather Service says dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are possible. The same update says a high rip current risk remains in effect for the Palm Beach coast through Thursday evening.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
