Lake Worth Beach is looking for a new District 1 commissioner. Sarah Malega resigned Wednesday, October 28, to become executive director of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, and the city has set a fast timeline to fill her seat.
Mayor Betty Resch has called a special meeting for 6 p.m. Monday, November 2, to discuss the vacancy. Under the city charter, the commission must appoint a replacement no later than November 9 — the day before qualifying opens for the March 9, 2027 city election. District 1 residents interested in serving can apply immediately after the November 2 meeting; the deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday, November 5. Commissioners vote on the appointment at 9 a.m. on November 9, and the pick needs a majority.
Why it matters: whoever is appointed will vote on city budgets, utilities and development for District 1 — much of the city's southwest — for the rest of Malega's term. If you live in District 1 and have considered serving, the window to apply is less than three days.
