The National Weather Service in Miami extended the high rip current risk for coastal Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties in an update issued at 9:52 PM on Tuesday, October 20. The risk now runs through Friday evening, October 23, a day later than the Thursday evening end time in the previous statement.
Dangerous rip currents are expected along South Florida's Atlantic beaches during this period. The Weather Service says rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
