The Ministry of Education has opened registrations for the SEVA First Innovation Challenge 2026, a national competition inviting students and young innovators to build practical solutions to real-world problems — with a multi-crore prize pool (the ministry cites ₹5.4 crore in total prizes) plus mentorship, lab access, incubation support, and pilot funding for promising ideas.

There are three levels: Junior (school students, classes 6–12), Technical (ITI and polytechnic students working on engineering, fabrication, and electronics solutions), and Open (undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars developing prototypes or pilots). Entries compete under five national themes — Clean and Sustainable Bharat; Prosperous Farmers, Prosperous Bharat; Healthy and Inclusive Bharat; Educated and Skilled Bharat; and Secure Bharat — in two tracks: product/technology solutions and business-model/governance solutions. Category winners receive ₹10 lakh for first place, ₹5 lakh for second, and ₹3 lakh for third.

Registration for the South Zone edition — covering Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep — is open until Oct. 24, 2026, at sevafirst.mic.gov.in. The national finale takes place in New Delhi this December.

Why it matters: The deadline is nine days away. Students with a community-problem idea — from the family in Kerala to kids here — can register now and turn it into a mentored, funded project.
