The coastal road beside Mar-a-Lago is set to close to through traffic at 5 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, ahead of President Donald Trump's expected first trip this season to his Palm Beach home, town officials announced Oct. 14. He was last in Palm Beach May 1–2.
South Ocean Boulevard will shut down between the Southern Boulevard traffic circle and South County Road until further notice. Residents and workers inside the zone can pass after showing identification, entering only through the north security checkpoint at South County Road. The closure effectively divides the town in two, forcing cross-town drivers to detour on and off the island.
Drawbridge schedules also change during presidential visits: the Flagler Memorial, Southern Boulevard, and Royal Park bridges open less frequently, and the Southern Boulevard Bridge can close without notice for motorcades. Temporary flight restrictions are expected for the Mar-a-Lago airspace Oct. 16–18 per an FAA notice, though it does not name Trump.
Why it matters: If you drive through Palm Beach this weekend, plan alternate routes and extra time — and if you are flying near the island, check the FAA advisories.
