The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Special Weather Statement for inland Miami-Dade County on Friday, October 23, in effect until 4:30 PM EDT.
At 3:52 PM, meteorologists were tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles east of the Shark Valley Observation Tower to 7 miles northeast of Everglades National Park, moving south-southwest at 10 mph, based on radar. The storms may bring penny-size hail, and minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Everglades National Park is among the locations affected.
The Weather Service says these storms can down small tree limbs and branches and blow around unsecured small objects. Seek shelter in a safe building until the storm passes, and monitor local radio and television for additional information and possible warnings, as the storms may intensify.
