The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Flood Advisory at 10:01 AM on Wednesday, November 4, for central Miami-Dade County, in effect until noon EST. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms across the advisory area, and the NWS said minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, and forecasters say an additional 1 to 2 inches are possible, which will result in minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Locations that will experience flooding include The Redland, Kendall, Richmond West, Country Walk, Zoo Miami, The Hammocks, The Crossings, Richmond Heights, West Kendall, Princeton, Naranja, Kendale Lakes, Leisure City, Sunset, Three Lakes, South Miami Heights and Kendall West.
The NWS safety instruction is direct: turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads — most flood deaths occur in vehicles. South Florida Malayalees (SFM) readers driving in central Miami-Dade today should allow extra time and never attempt to cross standing water.
