The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Flood Advisory at 9:43 AM on Wednesday, November 4, for northern Miami-Dade County, in effect until 10:45 AM EST. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms across the advisory area, and the NWS said minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, and forecasters say an additional 1 to 2 inches are possible, which will result in minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Locations that will experience flooding include Sweetwater, University Park, Tamiami, Fountainbleau, Westchester, Olympia Heights, Kendale Lakes, FIU South Campus, Tamiami Fairgrounds and Westwood Lakes.
The NWS safety instruction is direct: turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads — most flood deaths occur in vehicles. South Florida Malayalees (SFM) readers driving in northern Miami-Dade this morning should allow extra time and never attempt to cross standing water.
