The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Flood Advisory for eastern Palm Beach County on Friday, October 23, in effect until 7:00 PM EDT.
The Weather Service said flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected, with minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. At 4:58 PM, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from nearly stationary thunderstorms, and between 1 and 3 inches of rain had fallen in the previous hour. An additional 1 to 3 inches was expected over the next couple of hours. Locations that will experience flooding include West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach, Ocean Ridge, Greenacres, Palm Springs, Lantana, and Atlantis.
The Weather Service advises drivers to turn around and not drive through flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles, and to report observed flooding to local emergency services when it can be done safely.
