The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Flood Advisory at 10:32 AM on Wednesday, November 4, for south-central Miami-Dade County, in effect until 11:30 AM EST. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms across the advisory area, and the NWS said minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, and forecasters say an additional 1 to 2 inches are possible, which will result in minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Locations that will experience flooding include Homestead, The Redland, Florida City and Leisure City.
The NWS safety instruction is direct: turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads — most flood deaths occur in vehicles. South Florida Malayalees (SFM) readers driving in south-central Miami-Dade this morning should allow extra time and never attempt to cross standing water.
