The National Weather Service in Miami extended the Rip Current Statement for coastal Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties in an update issued at 2:25 PM on Friday, October 23. A high risk of dangerous rip currents is now in effect through Monday evening, October 26 — two days longer than the previous update, which ran through Saturday evening.

The Weather Service says rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water, and the risk applies along South Florida's Atlantic beaches through the weekend and into Monday.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
