The National Weather Service in Miami extended the Rip Current Statement for coastal Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties in an update issued at 1:20 AM on Monday, October 26. A high risk of dangerous rip currents is now in effect through Wednesday evening, October 28 — longer than the late Tuesday night end time in the previous update.
The Weather Service says rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water, and the risk applies along South Florida's Atlantic beaches.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
