Brooklyn-based wholesale distributor Krasnyi Oktyabr has voluntarily recalled 8-ounce packages of Starfish Seafood Trio — a mix of cold-smoked salmon, halibut, and trout — over possible listeria contamination. The recall was issued after New York state inspectors identified a potential contamination risk, according to an October 9 notice posted by the FDA.

The product was distributed in Florida, New York, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Identify it by lot number D139149161-153, expiration date Dec. 1, 2027, and country of origin Latvia. No illnesses have been reported.

If you bought it, do not eat or serve it — return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions can go to Krasnyi Oktyabr at 718-858-6720, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

Why it matters: Listeria can cause serious, sometimes fatal illness — particularly for pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems. Check your refrigerator if you buy smoked fish in Florida; the long expiration date means these packages could still be in freezers.
