The National Weather Service in Miami issued a Special Weather Statement on Saturday, October 17, for a strong thunderstorm affecting inland Broward County through 5:45 PM EDT.

Meteorologists were tracking the nearly stationary storm near the Miccosukee Service Plaza, about 29 miles west of Sunrise, and said it is capable of producing a landspout and wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs, blow around unsecured objects, and cause minor damage to outdoor objects. Areas affected include the Miccosukee Indian Reservation, the service plaza, and Big Cypress National Preserve.

The NWS says conditions are also favorable for funnel clouds, and advises residents to stay tuned to NOAA weather radio and local media for additional updates and possible warnings.
