A scam impersonating the Florida Department of Revenue is circulating, and the Town of Ocean Ridge in Palm Beach County has issued a public alert about it.

The message falsely claims your tax refund has been approved and asks you to visit a suspicious website — such as a link shaped like revenue.refundmj.cc/notice — to enter banking or payment details. It also threatens that your refund will be permanently forfeited if you do not respond by a deadline.

The Department of Revenue does not send unsolicited messages with non-government URLs, and it never demands immediate action under threat of forfeiture. If you receive one of these messages, do not click any link, do not enter personal information, and do not reply — just delete it. You can report it to the Florida Department of Revenue directly or to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Why it matters: refund-scam texts are timed to land when people are still thinking about taxes, and one careless click can hand over your bank details. If friends or family got the same text, tell them it is fake.
