A strong cold front reaches South Florida by late Saturday, ending the week of above-average heat with rain, gusty winds, and noticeably cooler air. Friday's highs stay in the upper 80s to low 90s, but Saturday brings highs in the 70s up north and 80s down south — 5 to 10 degrees below average — with Saturday-night lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Forecast highs for Sunday: 80 in West Palm Beach, 82 in Miami.

Watch for flooding: in Miami, rain combined with higher-than-normal tides could cause significant street flooding Sunday and Monday. Weekend gusts of 30–40 mph and dangerous surf and rip currents are also expected along parts of the coast.

Separately, the NHC sees low potential for a tropical or subtropical system to develop off the southeastern U.S. coast next week as the front moves offshore. Most guidance tracks it northeast into the open Atlantic — not expected to approach Florida — but it's worth watching.

Why it matters

Weekend outdoor plans, including Diwali prep and Sunday events, should account for rain and gusty winds — and Miami drivers should be ready for possible street flooding Sunday and Monday. The cooler air, though, will be welcome relief.
