The Social Security Administration confirmed a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 on Wednesday, October 14 — the biggest raise since 2023's 8.7%.

At 3.6%, the average $2,087 monthly check rises about $75 a month (roughly $902 a year), starting with January 2027 payments; SSI recipients see the increase December 31. About 76 million Americans are affected.

Note: the 2027 Medicare Part B premium (currently $202.90) isn't announced until November and will eat part of the raise.
