If you hold savings bonds or Treasury securities at TreasuryDirect, Wednesday is the changeover. The traditional TreasuryDirect login works through October 28, 2026; after that, ID.me is the only way to sign in online, according to TreasuryDirect's official FAQ.
Missing the date is not an emergency. Your funds and investments remain safe, existing reinvestments continue, and you can restore online access at any time by completing the ID.me setup and linking your account. But until you do, you cannot sign in online, make new purchases, set up new reinvestments, or view or download tax forms online — account management is by paper forms only. Note that a Login.gov account does not work for TreasuryDirect.
To set up: type TreasuryDirect.gov into your browser yourself (do not follow email links), choose Secure Sign In, and have your Social Security number and a government-issued photo ID ready. Setup typically takes about 5 to 10 minutes.
